Based on the artist’s belief that the sense of alienation is not limited to that experienced by those who are physically displaced, the project aims to raise awareness of the varied experience of displacement through creative activities, bringing together a wide range of social issues from racism, homelessness, disability, domestic abuse, bullying, old age, LGBT+ to refugee crisis. Participants are invited to create ‘small people’, which are then placed on a platform to become part of a large installation, the result of which will be exhibited at P21 Gallery in London at the end of 2017.
Presence(s) invites us into the terrain where individual experience and socio-historical influences meet. It extends the perception of personal experience to the social, historical and political. It opens up questions as to how these 'social forces' influence our lives and encounters, and how we might go beyond them, towards “response-able” forms of encountering ourselves and each other, as well as enabling a more viable way of being-together-in the world.
Presence(s) fully unfolds in a participatory process!
There are two processes at FaB
Saturday 27th at 4pm
Sunday 28th at 4pm
Each process is open to 7 participants and takes about an hour. It is guided by Sarah, who, as a ‘responsible participant’, holds the process and participates herself.
