Exhibition runs:  26th Jan - 4th Feb 2018,    Open:  12pm - 6pm  (Sun 1pm - 4pm)

This year the annual 44AD associates exhibition will see artists creatively responding to themes of genetics, ancestry, patterns of inheritance and environment.

Genetics v The People (ground floor gallery) will accompany the exhibition Process: visualising DNA research (basement gallery) by Bath Open Art Prize award winners Gillian McFarland and Ruth Singer.

How does your hereditary genetic blueprint, life experiences and the era that you live in, influence who you are - your physiology, health, behaviour traits, choices and outcomes.

Melissa Wraxall  99% European: my DNA as Floral Emblems

‘The concept behind this work was a DNA test that I was given for my birthday, which yielded some expected results and some unexpected ones as well. I wasn't surprised to see a large proportion of Irish ancestry, as a lot of Irish people emigrated to my birthplace of Australia, during the 19th century, whether of their own volition or not. However, I was surprised that I have as much Scandinavian DNA, as I have from the rest of the British Isles. I wanted to represent each place that my DNA came from in a symbolic form, showing the proportions of each contributing geographical location.’
