Thomas Spencer Fine Art is proud to announce ‘Prologue’ the first in two planned shows at 44AD artspace in Bath. The show will run from the 15th - 20th of December in the downstairs gallery. ‘Prologue’ will showcase four young rising British artists: Ben Reader, Miranda Carins, Jess Power and Luke Samuel.

Ben Reader is a Cornish artist who specialises in emotive, figural and fantastical scenes steeped in folklore and historical references. Reader takes inspiration from the habits and customs of his location. Although born in Cornwall Reader currently resides in Portugal and both settings appear as influences in his work. This show will display several of Reader’s new artworks including a number of mystical group scenes set against the backdrop of an ancient Cornish landscape as well as studies of Portuguese fisherwomen. In both cases tradition and custom are reimagined in Reader’s bold and distinctive contemporary style.

Miranda Carins’ work explores our perception of space. Within her work she captures the hidden and explicit beauty of architectural features with an intense expressive style rarely seen in architectural studies. In this show she will be showing a number of works of Bath as well as several of her signature landscapes. Her landscapes are depicted with a rich and vibrant colour palette and are instantly recognisable.

Jess Power is a London born artist who specialises in large-scale abstract works that use a symbolic visual language influenced by ancient sculpture. In her works she provokes a dialogue between imagery and materiality. By re-contextualising themes and symbols prevalent throughout art history she aims to explore and reflect upon the chaos of life.

Luke Samuel is a Welsh artist who explores the reconfiguration of images within his work. Working from a bank of collected images that he draws and reuses multiple times Samuel produces haunting and moving paintings of interiors.

All four artists’ styles compliment and contrast with one another perfectly. This show can be seen as a precursor to a larger show that will take place at 44AD in February 2019. This show will also feature Reader, Carins, Power and Samuel along with several other emerging British artists.
