Stranger things happen at sea!  -  Paintings by  Anthony Woodward

Private View:  Mon 10th November  (6pm - 8pm)

Exhibition continues:  11th – 16th November  2014

Anthony Woodward’s paintings are best described as ‘conversation pieces’, depicting social gatherings, ranging from the recognisable, meetings at the bar, the racetrack, the nightclub, to more extraordinary surreal scenes like the boxing ring or the arctic with the juxtapositioning of people and animals.

Recent works have focused on women and their shoes; creating a fabulous series of smile enduring scenes where ladies compare their new purchases with relish, holding up their newly clad feet to be admired.

Using oil on canvas in a fluid manner, Anthony Woodward creates pictures that are detailed yet not overly-worked. The narratives are seldom straight forward, and the viewer is invited to work out what is happening, in what are charged atmospheres.

Amongst his prestigious output of work, especially portraits – Anthony Woodward’s paintings have featured in the BBC’S “The People’s coronation”. A permanent collection has been commissioned by the Radisson Mayfair Hotel, and he has completed a number of portraits of servicemen “killed in action” for the British Army.

This exhibition at 44AD artspace brings together a captivating collection of work loaded with ‘panache’, ‘fire’ and ‘romance’.

Vogues Masterpiece…. “captivating”.
