T R A C E S  -  an exhibition by FLASH Resident Artist Sophie Erin Cooper

Thurs 3rd  -  Sun 6th September 2015,  Open: 11am - 6pm

Preview  -  Wednesday 2nd September  (6pm - 8pm)

Traces is an exhibition of detailed and delicate works created during Sophie’s residency at 44AD artspace. Sophie's work explores mark making inspired by the intricate patterns found in nature. Her subtle ethereal works whispering of complexity as you take a closer look.

During her residency Sophie has developed new patterns and explored working on a variety of sur-faces. Her drawings growing organically across translucent papers, natural objects and the space itself, creating both permanent and temporary works. The ephemeral pieces aim to amplify fragility, present art as an experience and echo the fleeting quality of moments and natural forms.

During her time at 44AD Sophie has used a variety of different papers to compose books as 3D art objects. Sophie is interested in collecting and using overlooked materials such as tracing paper, grease proof paper and fragile leaves in her work. Applying her intricate drawings to these materials she aims to transform these items into something to be treasured.
