Bath Riverside

Award-winning painter Catherine Beale presents her newest works in the gallery at 44AD. The first room contains flowing watercolours, inspired by the vertical landscapes of Bath’s reflecting waterways and cascading terraces. Hanging In the second room are recent portraits, including her oil studies of the students of Bath Dance College.

Catherine’s work is process driven - she applies pure pigment upon wetted canvases and controls the natural running and mixing of paint in what she terms “gravity paintings”. Her paints contain minerals such as Hematite and Amethyst which granulate and channel like rivers across her painted surface. She has even begun to grind her own ochre pigment from Bath’s local Oolitic limestone and these new experiments will be on display.

Bath Dreaming

Catherine has painted portraits internationally for twenty years, drawing inspiration from the intricately varied tones caused by the play of light over faces. Her work sells at regional and national exhibitions. She is an elected Associate of the Society of Women Artists.

The Dance Class

A technical writer for The Artist Magazine, Catherine is offering two workshops during the exhibition in which participants are invited to try out her “gravity painting” methods, surrounded by the exhibition works.
