44AD is a contemporary art space located in central Bath at
7b Lower Borough Walls, BA1 1QR.
44AD has been created to support emerging contemporary artists and their work and to encourage the public’s engagement with the visual arts.
44AD welcomes all sectors of the community; providing an accessible insight into the whole process of art production and display.
Gallery44AD is a professional exhibition area (approx 175 m sq) made up of several gallery spaces that show the work of invited artists, in addition to running seasonal open submission exhibitions.
The Main Gallery Space 1 is available to hire at £270 per week (7 day inclusive).
It is preferable that the Gallery Space 1 is booked in week lengths. This is open to negotiation, and if the duration is less, this will be worked out on a scale of £270 per week less £20 off per missing day.
Therefore:
6 days hire would be £250 (£270 - £20)
5 days hire would be £230 (£270 - £40)
4 days hire would be £210 (£270 - £60)
3 days hire would be £190 (£270 - £80)
2 days hire would be £170 (£270 - £100)
This is to encourage longer bookings with no empty space mid week - as it is important for the centre to always have a running show in place.
Included in the Gallery Space 1 rental is an annexed darkspace that comes fully equipped for video installation, lightbox and projection work etc. If facilitated, a £10 weekly charge to cover electricity/bulbs etc will be added.
Gallery space 3 is available to hire as an exhibition space at £160 per week or a workshop space on a negotiable hourly / daily basis.
Guest exhibitors are encouraged to man their own exhibition. If external commitments do not allow for this, 44AD invigilation costs will be £5 per hour.
The gallery opening hours are:
Mon to Sat: 12 midday - 6pm
Sun: 1pm - 5pm
44AD likes to remain flexible to exhibiting artist’s needs, therefore an extension to the hours of opening and allowances made for show set up and take down is always negotiable.
A 44AD representative will be on hand to open and lock up the gallery at these times. It is important that 44AD artspace reliably opens at the appointed hours.
When an opening night/p.v takes place; food and drink is to be offered free by the guest exhibiting group. Alternatively, 44AD will run a suggested donation bar with proceeds to go back to the centre.
Within reason, there are no hanging limitations. Please note that after your exhibition, the gallery space must be left as you found it - i.e. drilled holes filled and any marked walls repainted. You are required to provide your own white paint and filler for making good the walls etc.
Artworks need not be for sale, but any works offered for sale will be on the basis of a 10% commission of the sale price.
44AD artspace has full employer and public liabilities insurance.
Artists must insure their own work. Although every care will be taken, 44AD artspace cannot accept responsibility for loss or damage to artworks.
Exhibitions and events held at Gallery44AD are subject to application.
All gallery applications should include a brief written outline of the proposed exhibition with a selection of recent work images to be sent digitally via email to
Presentations and workshops that relate to proposed exhibitions and events are very much encouraged.
Once an exhibition application has been accepted by 44AD, a deposit payment of £50 is required to secure the booking.
