Welcome to Embrace DNR.
Embrace DNR was born out of love.
Embrace DNR was created to access and address life changing issues surrounding love, loss, healing, memory and the "things that are left unsaid" at end-of-life. The title refers to the way we embrace loved ones as their lives end, and how we embrace personal memory to sustain us as we ponder where love goes after death. The acronym DNR refers to the end of life medical instruction 'Do Not Resuscitate'.
Carolyn has enjoyed a peripatetic career as a performing artist, dancer, choreographer, teacher, film maker and consultant for more than forty years. Embrace DNR maps how things changed so devastatingly for her after the loss of her husband.
Carolyn collaborated with musician and digital artist Marcus Dyer to create an intensely moving interactive conversation in a multimedia sound installation. Haunting images by photographer Marc Le Galle appear alongside Carolyn’s writing, real time photography taken on her smartphone and notes from her diary.
Carolyn hopes Embrace DNR will resonate with all who view it – offering an invitation to embrace memories of loved ones from the past, in the present and of the future.
