An exhibition celebrating text in art of all forms, curated by Kelly O'Brien and Sveta Antonova.
Think beyond the wall and into the world of language. There are endless possibilities between a visual art practice and writing, text, letters, words.
ART+TEXT is showcasing an international group of artists expressing themselves through this truly engaging medium.
The relationship between art and text has always been rich and varied – from René Magritte to Jasper Johns, Jenny Holzer to Martin Creed - the decision to use text in art is a powerful and often provocative choice.
Within each of us the perception of text varies, may it be conceptual, aesthetic or purely content orientated. ART+TEXT can manifest as anything!
Expect video, performance, installation, print and much more on both gallery floors at 44AD artspace.
ART+TEXT 2017 will close its doors for this year with a public event – you are warmly invited.
Expect a talk about the connection between language, text and linguistics in visual arts practice, a tour through the exhibition by the curators – including a Q&A with local artists.
Furthermore performance artist Peta Lloyd will perform ‘It just is 2’ live at 3.20pm.
Tea, coffee and snacks provided.
'Visual art and writing don't exist on an aesthetic hierarchy that positions one above the other, because each is capable of things the other can't do at all. Sometimes one picture is equal to 30 pages of discourse, just as there are things images are completely incapable of communicating.'
William S. Burroughs
